I’ve owned this domain for 6 years now. That’s insane to me. I remember when I finally decided to take the plunge and buy a domain because tumblr wouldn’t let me back into my then travel blog. There’s only been a few times in my life when I was particularly good about blogging. I remember keeping up with it pretty well during my high school semester in Israel and then also during maybe 2/3 of my study abroad’s in college but then I remember blogging getting intimidating. People were saturating the travel blog market with their adventures in far away places, fancy words and even fancier travel guides. I didn’t feel like I could compete, I still don’t feel like I can compete – however there is one thing I know to be true, I love to travel. It’s one of the big things that makes me, me, and it’s been one of my few constants in an ever changing world. So 6 years ago when I was living in Israel I made the leap, I bought a domain and then I wrote virtually nothing, how unfortunate and yet very on brand, don’t you think?
I can’t tell you how many posts I’ve half written over the years whether they be in a notebook that I never filled, scattered over two laptops or in the notes app on my phone. They’re all valid thoughts, yet half written and never fully committed too. So here’s yet another thought, but I promise it isn’t half written this time. Back when my parents encouraged me to blog on my very first big trip, a semester abroad in Israel in high school, I remember my mom very distinctly saying “Write it all down. Everything. Because you never know what you’ll remember 20 years from now. You never know what small detail you’ll forget.”
She reminds me of that a lot, in fact. Every single new place I go to or new story I tell her over the phone there’s always that elephant hovering in the background, did you write it down? And did I? Probably not.
So what’s spurring this new writing inspiration you might ask? Well I just reread my very first post on this domain. I remember writing it because I was trying to make this blog a bit different from my original one but also wanted to include some stories from my old one. I sat reading it and laughing, remembering how good of a trip to Roma that specific adventure was and it brought me right back to that moment. How good the wine was on the steps of Trastevere with a new friend, how the tiramisu just melted right in my mouth and how cacio e pepe is never as good as it is in Roma (speaking of I REALLY need to take a trip back – anyone up for a weekend in Roma?).
I can’t promise I’m going to write every day, hell (excuse my french) I can’t promise I’m going to write every week, but I will promise y’all this. I’m going to try my best to take these half writings I’ve accumulated over the years and actually post them. Additionally, I’m going to do my best to also write about what I’ve been up to especially since March (because if you know me in real life you know I’ve been up to A LOT).
So that’s what I have for you. I’m not trying to compete in the travel blogger market, I’m just a girl who wants to look back 20 years from now and remember what I was doing. And to those who always ask me if I’ll end up writing a book about my life, I still have no clue, but if I do decide to, you can say you knew me when.
P.S. I decided to include a few photos from that trip to Roma in 2016 below since re reading that post has inspired quite a lot.
